SPECIAL AUTHORITY FOR THE PORT OF MONFALCONE

The Special Authority for the Port of Monfalcone (ASPO) was established in 1975 by the Chamber of Commerce of Gorizia with the aim of fostering and stimulating the structural development of the maritime-port activities of Monfalcone.

Statutory objectives of ASPO
According to the provisions of art. 14 of law no. 84/1994 and amendments, the statutory objectives of the Special Authority for the Port of Monfalcone are as follows: planning, programming, coordinating and promoting the port as well as implementing infrastructural and other works aimed at developing and strengthening the port and the Goods Interchange Area.

Within this context, over the years the Authority has achieved various milestones among which:

• The construction of parking lots and relief roads and associated lighting;
• The construction of a new access road to the port;
• The erection of buildings to accommodate the Harbour Master’s Office, Customs offices, Police offices, Tax Inspection Offices as well as port operators and Authority operators;
• The construction of structures for customs crossing and for the goods interchange area, the installation of a weighbridge, 7 movable sheds, 3 covered port warehouses as well as various port facilities made available to the operators.

In order to exploit these infrastructures to the maximum as well as to increase the efficiency of port operations, over the years the Special Authority for the Port of Monfalcone has purchased filtered hoppers, four self-propelled cranes and accessories for rubber tyred cranes and quay cranes.

According to the company’s efficiency criteria and in compliance with the guidelines set forth by the competent Regional and Ministerial Management Boards, the Special Authority for the Port of Monfalcone guarantees that the development policies of the Port of Monfalcone are in line with a rational expansion project, particularly as regards the general economic policy, the environment, the competitiveness with other ports, relations with global service and infrastructural organisation and, more in general, with all the territorial components included in the mentioned areas, even those indirectly involved with the port.

As a result, the Special Authority for the Port of Monfalcone is an ideal example of management specialisation inspired by the North-European company organisation criteria.
