The Special Authority for the Port of Monfalcone offers a great many services to its customers:
Facilities
The port facility disposes of a large yard of mechanical equipment which includes rail mounted gantry cranes (RMG), 4 rubber tyred gantry cranes (RTG), power shovels, lifting trucks, towing tractors, carriages of various dimensions, rail locomotives and specific equipment such as self-propelled tired filtered hoppers for powdery materials, special grimping jaws for handling of logs, lifting grabs, buckets, etc.
Furthermore, a self-ballasting pontoon, owned by the Chamber of Commerce of Gorizia is also available, operating as a floating bridge for ro-ro operations. The pontoon can also be used for purposes other than those specified, with the help of tugboats.
Warehouses and depots
Large yards ensure good wharf services and cargo storage.
Available to the operators:
- yards subject to customs regulations, for temporary storage and deposit for fiscal purposes;
- public and private warehouses subject to customs deposit regulations and temporary storage;
- sheds at the wharf for the recovery of goods in transit;
- vast surfaces for the port development and opportunities of introducing private operators with their own structures;
- 600,000 m2 already infrastructured of which 60,000 m2 are covered;
- 750,000 m2 of port areas to be completed with infrastructures.
Maritime cabotage
The aim is to create an integrated connection system that offers an alternative to road transport, thus assuring a more rational distribution of goods traffic while solving the problems of overcrowding the national road system. It is one of the basic elements for requalifying and expanding the Italian ports.
Buildings and services
Two service buildings located at the main port entrance and owned by ASPO are available for the users. The buildings accommodate the offices for the port operators of the Customs Agency, the Tax Inspection Offices, the Maritime Police and the Harbour Master’s Office. Coffee bars, restaurants, and conference rooms are also available. The adjacent area accommodates a petrol station and a carwash station for cars and trucks.

Car Terminal
C.E.T.A.L. srl, a company specialised in Ro-Ro services for ships operates on a port yard covering 93,000 square meters, with a capacity to hold approx.4,000 cars coming from various motorcar industries (Renault, Mercedes/Smart, BMW, Fiat, Opel, Dacia, Saab). A washing/dewaxing installation and a shop for pre-delivery inspection (PDI) are also available.
Grains silos
Two pneumatic cranes on rail for loading/unloading of grains and bulk by-products with a maximum capacity of 250 t/h, each connected to the silos by means of chain belt conveyors and bucket elevators. The silos, served by a 120 m long private dock connected to the railways, have a max. capacity of 70,000 tons and are also used as a private customs warehouse.
